Rob Percival, policy officer at the Soil Association, said: “Britain’s obesity rates are not only alarmingly high, they’re socially stratified: the prevalence of obesity amongst Britain’s most deprived children is more than double that of the least deprived. This highlights the need for government to commit to a joined-up food strategy, aimed at these tackling inequalities in diet and ensuring that a healthy and sustainable diet is accessible and affordable for everyone. There are few areas of public policy where the positive benefits to lives, health and well-being would be more far-reaching than meaningful action on food.”
